Building Relationships with Your Customers Begins with Communication
Written by Kelley Hopper on December 1st, 2009I was reading a forum post today from a new eBay buyer who was asking the question “How long should I wait for my items to arrive before I get concerned?”. If your customer doesn’t know when the item they purchased from you should arrive you aren’t communicating effectively.
Many online sellers mistakenly believe that selling online is an anonymous business that requires no contact and no relationship building. That is where they are wrong. I want my customers to come back and buy again and again because I make them feel important.
I email them an invoice, I email them and thank them for their payment, I email them to let them know I sent their purchase and I tell them when to expect it. I even include a hand signed thank you note in the package thanking them for choosing to do business with me. I want my customers to know how important they are.
Communicating with your customers doesn’t have to take long if you use the automation tools provided on many selling venues. eBay offers standard communication templates that you can, and should, customize for your business. Amazon has similar tools but they take care of the payments so all you need to do is communicate the shipping information.
The holidays are getting close and the deadlines are near for getting shipments out on time for delivery before the big day. Telling your customers when to expect the arrival of your package relieves some of the stress and will make for potential return visitors to your store after the holidays.
