Use Mannequins Not Models to Display Your Clothing

My biggest pet peeve, when it comes to buying used clothing or jewelry online, is sellers who use a person to model the item in their photos. Very few people have a professional model and photographer that can do justice to the item in a picture. Also, there seems to be a discrepancy in what is photogenic and what will simply turn off a buyer. A diamond ring modeled by someone with poor hand hygiene like dirty fingernails is gross.

Inflatable mannequinsI’d like to think that a clothing item I am purchasing online is clean, especially if it is dry clean only. Seeing it on a model makes me wonder if I am going to receive the item with deodorant marks, perfume, makeup or hair on it. I always look for sellers using mannequins or other inanimate ways to display their clothing.

Ideally used clothing should be displayed using a mannequin or dress form in photographs. You can also hang the garment on a hanger or lay it out on a bed if you don’t have a mannequin. Jewelry should be displayed on a professional type jewelry / photo prop or on the table. Hats should be displayed on a hat form. You can pick up mannequins and photo props rather inexpensively online at many store supply outlets. Short on space? Look for inflatable mannequins (no, not the x-rated type) that you can blow up to use then deflate for easy storage.

Even though you may be selling as a hobby, make your ads as professional as possible and it will help you get more sales.
